The following were the course objectives:

  • To strengthen coordination capacities of AUC, RECs, CSOs, women’s rights organizations, and national partners to collect rigorous quality data related to VAWG/SGBV/HP and SRH&RR
  • To enhance the capacities of gender data institutions to manage VAW prevalence and or administrative data in line with globally agreed standards
  • To develop a network of regional experts that can be involved in inter-country collaborative initiatives across Africa and, in the Member States and national institutions
  • To enhance awareness of the capacities of national statistical offices and other stakeholders working on VAWG to collect data and ensure that the data can be used to inform policies and programs to address VAWG

The course targets different institutions/organizations including AUC, RECs, CSO’s, women’s rights organizations, and national governments (e.g., MOH, NSOs); Higher Education Institutions (HEIs); research institutions focusing on VAWG research; and other development partners.

Targeted staff from these institutions include researchers, activists, policymakers, advocates, feminists, NGOs and CBOs staff, donor corporation field workers, students, trainers, and government officials whose focal point of interest is on gender and developing methods that will facilitate the permanent eradication of SGBV. Efforts will be made to ensure we have diverse groups that will benefit group exercises and subsequent institutionalization of the training post-workshop.
